Frequently Asked Questions

Why is it when you ask me what we will fish for I can't answer you? The reasons are many! Weather, tides, seasons, migrations, and YOU! Every trip on the Magic Hook is different and custom to the current conditions, anglers desire, number of anglers, and level of angling skill. Remember the objective out there is to HAVE A GOOD TIME.

Offshore Fly Fishing

Weather play's a huge role also, as does seasonal migrations. I can tell you when something SHOULD be here. But as mother nature always does, she changes the rules! Patience is needed on your part, and remember I want you to catch fish and have the best time possible. If I make a suggestion as to what to fish for or how to fish for them, type of tackle, lure selection et. Its because I have done it a thousand times before and my desire is for you to be happy and catch fish. BUT its still your charter and we will do it your way, that is my specialty. If you call and express a desire to catch a specific fish, that's fine with me. But if its off season for that fish, or conditions are not right, our chances of success will be low and I will tell you that exactly. I am a "what you see is what you get" kind of person. If you still choose to go for it, I will work my tail off for you. Let me say here that most charters have the best time if they just tell me to take them fishing and catch what we can. Of course I always want to know if you have a special desire, I will put that in the days plan if conditions and seasons will let me.

Some anglers love to pursue fish a certain way just to make the game more interesting and I am with you! Just know that the results will show that sometimes. One thing guaranteed I will be putting out 110% effort to make you happy and that my boat, tackle and gear will be in top condition and ready to go. We will have a rig ready for every possible scenario I can think of based on the season. As anyone who has fished with me will tell you, I come prepared. I fish every trip the night before in my mind, and try to think of the possibilities that may pop up and I try to be ready. There are always surprises on the water but that's why we keep going back, you never know what you will see or catch. Bottom line is I just cant tell you in advance what we might see or catch next. I love to catch as many different kinds of fish as possible on each trip. Variety is the spice of fishing!

I will always be very honest about fishing conditions. If I feel its going to be tough you will hear it. If I tell you its been good, then believe me on the trip before yours we did well. As I mentioned its and ever changing environment, and I am in the business of making happy customers. I feel a well informed angler is makes a happier customer. Its an ever changing environment and every person has different desires and needs. The one thing you can count on is that we will be in the fishiest places with the best bait, lures & flies. We will catch fish, but most of all you can put it in the bank that we will have a fantastic day on the water together.

If you call me the night before your trip and I cancel due to weather, do not be upset. I will make EVERY effort to make your trip happen, if its canceled, we will try to rebook. Sure we could always "go try". And we will if its marginal or fishable in the backwater and you agree to that. I know you have looked forward to this for a long time! ME too. But If I call or tell you its a "no go" its for SAFETY first and comfort second. That next morning it may look great from your porch or backyard. Likely its NOT so nice offshore. If it is and I made and error, I can live with that. Yes, you lost your fishing day, I lost a payday, but we are both home SAFE. I will always error on the side of safety. I have been fishing here for a long time, and I plan to for some time to come. There are stories about old Captains and bold Captains. But there are NO old bold Captains!
