Light tackle and Fly Fishing the Back Water esturay's and flats of Southwest Florida offers large areas of bays, creeks, flats, oyster bars, and other great habitat very close to our hotels and city's. This maximizes the fishing time and negates the need to travel a long distance to enjoy great Redfish, Snook, Trout, Tarpon, Ladyfish, Jack, and baby Goliath action. Even better the fishing starts very close to our dock. We specialize in sight fishing using artificial lures and fly tackle for these game fish. Its really amazing that you can drive fifteen minutes from your hotel, take a five minute boat ride as still be fishing in areas that equal the deep Everglades in productivity, wildlife, and just plain have that remote feeling. A four hour charter gives you the same fishing time as a six or eight deep in the glades due to how close we are to the fishing areas.

Our boat is a traditional style technical polling skiff by Ranger Boats. Loaded with state of the art equipment including power pole, trolling motor, push pole it will go almost any where there is water! Its light and very quiet on the water. Perfect for stalking that tailing redfish, on getting close enough to cast to that snook against the Mangroves.

MJ With Her Big Snook
Backcountry fishing can produce numerous species of fish. Snook are hard fighting adversaries that jump and can be difficult to keep out of the mangrove roots while fishing near shorelines. They are also found in potholes on the flats and can be sight fished. Red fishing can be a bonefish-style type of fishing where you can cast to tailing Redfish in shallow water. Average weight can range from 4 to 15 lbs.
The best times to fish the backcountry is anytime. That's right, each and every day of the year. Although winter time can bring unpredicted weather due to cold fronts. Jack Craval, Trout, Redfish, Sheepshead, Pompano, Triple Tail are prime targets in winter. Summer brings lots of Snook, Tarpon, Snapper, Ladyfish, Redfish and Sharks.

Fly Fishing in the backcountry is a a lot of fun especially for the novice fly fisherman. Fly fishing in a mullet mud for sea trout, ladyfish, jacks and sharks can be very fulfilling. Instant action awaits you. Fly fishing for redfish and snook is very exciting because many time you are looking at the fish you wish to catch. Redfish are a little less spooky and always eager to take a fly. Snook fishing, is mostly chuckin the fly into a maze of mangrove roots or pot holes. Also, I do a a lot of fly fishing for sharks and let me tell you, its one of my favorite things to do when they are in the area. The power of Bull or Lemon shark ripping drag is pretty much insane. Once you find the sharks, getting them to eat a fly isn't that difficult. I seem to have better success in murky water. No matter which route you go, fly fishing in the backcountry is a lot of fun. Just remember if you are planning a trip down here, practice your casting. Ever wanted to try fly fishing? This is a great place to start your fly adventures. We can teach you how to cast and discover the enjoyment of fly fishing with just a couple of hours of lesson.

There are many plentiful species that can be caught in the backcountry. Drifting channels and grass flats can produce large Sea Trout and countless other species of fish like Tarpon, Jacks, Ladyfish, Sharks and much more. Sight fishing can be very exciting. Anchoring in channels and shallow water areas can produce some of the best shallow water fishing. Sight casting to Redfish Sharks, with an occasional Tarpon or Cobia, in 3 feet of water can be unbelievable. Backcountry fishing provides non stop action and is highly recommended for children and anglers of all ages .
